Unilever In Talks To Buy The Honest Company by PitchBook

According to multiple reports, Unilever (NYSE: UN) is in talks to acquire The Honest Company, the VC-backed personal-care and consumer-products retailer co-founded by Jessica Alba. The move would be reminiscent of Unilever’s recent $1 billion acquisition of Dollar Shave Club, which represents a play for a greater share of the consumer packaged goods market across the personal care product line.

A similar price tag for The Honest Company would come in below the company’s $1.7 billion valuation fetched last year with a $100 million financing, and it’s said the company is still considering an IPO. The VCs with the most to gain in an exit include General Catalyst, Lightspeed Venture Partners and IVP, which co-led a $27 million Series A at a $64 million valuation in 2012.
