The SmartWatch 2 from Sony has been characterized as the second screen of the Android device for the users. The SmartWatch 2 from the house of Sony will be compatible with Android 4.0 and advanced devices as well as Bluetooth 3.0.

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) said that the wearable watch is very sleek in design and has all the form and functions. The watch comes with a multitude of functions incorporating Android app interface and phone remote control.

The SmartWatch 2 is NFC enabled and comes with a 1.6-inch, 220-by-176-pixel color display. Users can read comfortably in sunlight by swiping the colored display screen. The new wearable gadget from Sony is splash proof and dustproof, but it is not waterproof, so cannot be taken into the water, pool or shower.

SmartWatch and a Phone

The SmartWatch 2 is designed in such a way that it can perform almost all important functions of an Android phone. The SmartWatch can answer calls, click photos; and regulate the volume of the music player. In addition to these functions SmartWatch 2 can also be used as a fitness tracker in combination with apps like Runtastic.

Users have the facility to access social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Missed calls can be checked, and text messages can be received through this watch.

The battery life of the SmartWatch 2 is better in comparison to any other SmartWatch device available. According to Sony, the watch will give battery backup of five to six days in normal or low usage, and it will run for three to four days during high usage.

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) has launched its SmartWatch 2 when the market is buzzing with information that Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is coming up with a SmartWatch with the probable name iWatch. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is also in the process of designing a similar gadget.

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758), in 2007, itself launched a Bluetooth watch, which takes it ahead of the other players.

Last year, Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) launched a SmartWatch which had display screen size of 1.3 inch. The price of the SmartWatch was $149.99.
