The chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has just announced (via local news channel) that they will lift the ban on YouTube in the country soon. We first heard that the agency was considering lifting that ban on Monday. Pakistan banned YouTube starting in September 2012 after Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) refused to remove the Innocence of Muslims video from the site.

The video ignited a firestorm of controversy in the region, and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Google to take it down. As a result, Pakistani officials felt they didn’t have a reason to continue censoring YouTube.
