A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit southwest Pakistan Saturday in a region already devastated by a quake which left more than 300 dead just few days ago.

Met office in Pakistan measured the earthquake at 7.2, while the US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded it at 6.8 on the Richter Scale. Tremors were felt in provincial capitals Karachi and Quetta.

An earthquake struck Pakistan and India after 4:30 p.m. Pakistan time on Tuesday (7:30 a.m. Eastern). According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and was centered about 145 miles south-southeast of Dalbandin in Balochistan, Pakistan. It was felt throughout the region, including in Karachi and parts of India, including New Delhi.

Numerous homes were reportedly collapsed in Turbat, and the electric supply system in Pasni was also damaged by the earthquake. Over 400 people lost their lives and several houses were destroyed.

Officials in Balochistan declared an emergency in Awaran, which sustained the worst damage in the quake.

The earthquake on September 24th resulted in the formation of a completely new island near the port of Gwadar, off the southern coast of the country. Local media in Pakistan published a photo of the new island, and the residents flocked to the shore to see the new formation.
