After a German-language trailer was leaked online, Paramount has released the official Star Trek Beyond (first) trailer a week early.

Most fans of the TV show turned movie franchise Star Trek, most would agree that the movies were largely rubbish. However, the latest two reloads of the Star Trek movie franchise were quite well received. Each were directed by J.J. Abrams and featured an all new cast to fill the shoes of a young James T. Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Dr. Bones McCoy, Scotty and other familiar characters from the original 60’s television show and multiple films.

J.J Abrams is busy having taken over the reins of the Star Wars franchise with Star Wars: The Force Awakens set for release in a matter of days but he and his studio Bad Robot will produce Star Trek Beyond. Taking over the directors chair for him will be Justin Lin who is best known for his direction of Fast & Furious 5/6. Simon Pegg who plays Scotty wrote the screenplay along with Doug Jung.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin will all return to reprise their roles from the first two films. They will be joined by newcomers Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella with the former as the villain in the film which will hit the theaters July 22, 2016.

Star Trek Beyond trailer

The trailer, it must be said, looks pretty bad-ass as it kicks off with the Beastie Boys classic “Sabotage.” If that sounds familiar to you, you would be correct as the same song was used in the first Star Trek film of this reloaded franchise with the young Captain Kirk racing a stolen car with police while the song played.

In the trailer, you have a bit of everything from “kung-fu” from a new species the crew will come in to contact with as well as new uniforms and some proper Spock and Kirk moments along with a quick shot of most the regular crew members.

It looks quite slick and can be watched here.
