Merriam-Webster will release the updated version of Official Scrabble Players Dictionary next week. John Chew (co-president for North American Scrabble Players Association) add these additions will bring us closer to the language that is currently spoken.

The official Scrabble fan group, which set up tournaments and reviews for the official dictionary, is excited about the new changes. It has been about a decade since the last refresh which actually includes some interesting words such as te, da, gi, and po. Toronto-based clinical psychologist Robin Pollack is excited about the new addition. As the current champion of North American Scrabble Players Association, which has committee that helps track down words for the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

New words add much to the game

Daniel explained being able to hook an “e” right underneath a “t” offers far more word possibilities. He added that sometimes you can play parallel to a word and find you’re making two-letter words along the way. He dubs the words amino acids of Scrabble. More two letter words mean better possibility of the word fitting.Another new notable word in the dictionary is “qajaq”, a rare word with Inuit roots of kayak. This word actually requires a blank tile because Scrabble game sets only have one Q.

This will be the fifth edition of the Scrabble dictionary, which has been around the 36 years. Scrabble is more than just a game, it is an intrinsic part of modern culture and it often serves as a learning tool for children. The latest Scrabble dictionary update shows the game remains stronger than ever.
