Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Xbox One users whose devices are making an usual sound while inserting game discs may gain from this trouble. The software giant is offering a free digital download of titles Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse, Zoo Tycoon, or Dead Rising to any user of Xbox One who reports the issue with the latest gaming gadget.
Microsoft shipping new consoles
According to a report from Polygon, the issue has to be reported to customer support, which then goes through the Xbox One advance exchange program. As per the report, the issue affects a very small number of devices. The exchange program entitles a legitimately affected user to receive a new console even before shipping back the original.
Microsoft said defects were “affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers.”
After the launch on Friday, many reports claimed a malfunctioning in the Xbox One disc drive, to which Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) replied, “We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers.”
On Tuesday, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) publicly acknowledged the issue with specific disc drive saying it would try to ship the new consoles as fast as possible. However, the company gave no details on the number of users affected by the issue.
PS4 also faced launch issues
Nowadays, with so much media coverage, it’s a rarity if a launch comes out clean. Even for Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758)’s PlayStation 4 some issues were reported including the “Blue Light of Death,” which caught everyone’s attention. Some PS4 owners complained that the console is not completing the set up; instead a blue light flashes indefinitely. Similar to Sony’s, Xbox One issue has been titled “Disc Drive of Doom.”
However, the defect with PS4 was more serious as Xbox One owners, even with the issue, could still play digitally downloadable titles. According to Sony, the blue light issue affected less than 1% of the owners. The number sounds small, but it still comes to 10,000 consoles considering launch day sales of over 1 million units.
