Macbook Pro with Retina on discount at Best Buy

A store discount on the MacBook Pro with Retina Display? Huh?!?

It’s a product that critics have raved over and not without reason: Apple’s new 15.4-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display really pushes the envelope in design features and innovation. Housed in an ultra-slim, very lightweight form factor, this drool-worthy gizmo sports an Intel 2.3Ghz Core i7 processor, 8 gigs RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, Thunderbolt ports, USB 3.0, SDXC card slot, 802.11n Wi-Fi and BT 4.0, 256 GB flash storage and last but most important – a retina display screen with a breathtaking 2880 x 1800 resolution. The sticker shock: $2200 base price.

Not surprisingly there were double-takes all around at reports that a $110 discount was being offered by Best Buy on this machine, on in-store purchases only, as part of its sale of all kinds of Apple products. A screen shot of the offer can be seen here.

PCworld ran a check on whether a customer could really hope to get his hands on a Macbook Pro at this price at a Best Buy location.

The upshot of the inquiry was that in most stores across California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Texas, and Wyoming did not have the item in stock, so tough luck!

Well, guess you could settle for last year’s Macbook Air models – available with discounts ranging from $50 to $90.
