LAREDO, TX – This week, Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 6, which represents thousands of workers in telecommunications, cable, print and publishing, manufacturing, and other fields, announced their endorsement of Jessica Cisneros in her bid for Texas’s 28th Congressional District over Democratic incumbent Rep. Henry Cuellar.

“I am honored to receive the support of CWA District 6 and thousands of CWA members across Texas’ 28th district,” said Cisneros. “For too long, working people in our communities have gone without a voice in Washington to champion the issues that affect their daily lives. I am proud to be that voice.”

“It’s time for Congressman Cuellar, who has sided with Donald Trump 67% of the time and earned the nickname ‘Trump’s favorite Democrat’ to go,” said Local 6143 Legislative-Political Director Charles Fuentes. “CWA members are excited to support Jessica’s campaign, which is already generating much excitement and building grassroots support for the labor movement. Her support for crucial workers’ rights legislation, background as a human rights attorney, and strong ties to the community will make her a strong ally for CWA members and all workers in Congress, and our members will be doing what it takes to get her elected.”

CWA District 6 supports 98 CWA Locals in Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas, representing 64,000 workers — including Local 6143, which has thousands of members in Texas' 28th Congressional District.

Rep. Cuellar is the only House Democrat from Texas who has failed to receive a 100% Congressional scorecard rating from Communications Workers of America. This Congress, he has yet to join 216 of his House colleagues in cosponsoring H.R. 2474 - “Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2019," critical union-backed legislation that would restore and expand worker power.
