Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have been a huge success. But consumers have started looking forward to the next device, which is likely to be called the iPhone 6S. Recent reports suggest that the iPhone 6S is already in the works. Apple has sent out invites for a special event on March 9, where the company is widely expected to launch Apple Watch.

Apple hiring in Israel for chip design

According to MacRumors, Apple Watch will hit the stores in the first week of April. Following the launch of its wearable device, Apple will be able to focus more on the next big release: the iPhone 6S. The Cupertino company is currently finalizing components for its next flagship smartphone. Earlier this week, Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac reported that Apple will begin public testing of iOS 9 this summer to ensure that the upcoming OS doesn’t suffer from bugs.

The tech giant has ramped up efforts to boost its in-house chip expertise. 9to5Mac reported earlier this week that Apple is aggressively acquiring talent and technology in Israel for chip design. The iPhone 6S is expected to run the A9 processor. Apple has signed a deal with Samsung to supply A9 processor that will be based on 14nm FinFET technology.

Samsung to supply LPDDR4 RAM for the iPhone 6S

Now The Korea Times reports that Samsung will also be supplying DRAMs for the iPhone 6S. Sources familiar with the matter told The Korea Times that Samsung will be responsible for at least half of the iPhone 6S DRAMs. The report comes just days after the Korean company announced that it had begun mass production of LPDDR4 memory chip that will be far more power efficient than LPDDR3 RAM.

Samsung claims that its new LPDDR4 offers 50% higher performance than the fastest LPDDR3 RAM. More importantly, it consumes 40% less power at 1.1 volts. Since the two rivals have signed A9 processor and LPDDR4 RAM supply deals, the success of the iPhone 6S would also benefit Samsung. Sources said that the deal is estimated to be worth billions of dollars.
