A Japanese company which makes cases for the iPhone has posted what it claims to be dummy prototypes of the iPhone 6 (spotted by 9to5 Mac). As expected, they do certainly look like the next model will be larger. Dummy prototypes like these are sent out to case makers so that they can have cases ready when the new handset actually launches.

iPhone 6 looks bigger than the iPhone 5S

The site posted a comparison of the supposed iPhone 6 prototype and the iPhone 5S so that we can see what the size difference might be. Of course there is no way to know whether this supposed dummy prototype really is the real deal. It does appear to match up with rumors, however.

We’ve been hearing rumors for some time that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) might launch two different models, one with a screen that is 4.7 inches in size and a second that is 5.5 inches in size. Some have speculated that the screens will be made entirely from sapphire glass, although people go back and forth on this one. The iPhone 6 could also have a pixel density of 441 per inch, which would be an increase from that of the iPhone 5S, which is 326 pixels per inch.

Hanging all hopes on the iPhone 6?

Most analysts and investors are hoping the iPhone 6 will not only have a larger screen but also not be the only big new thing Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) releases this year. Many are hoping we will finally see the long-rumored iWatch. Some also expect Apple to add its Touch ID fingerprint scanner to the iPad Air.

As Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) prepares to launch the Galaxy S5, most are hoping that the iPhone 6 will feature something big that will set it apart from the Galaxy S5. However, some analysts say that we’re simply running out of new features which could set one smartphone apart from another in a meaningful way.
