When software giant Microsoft decided to drop the Start menu option in Windows 8 and 8.1, it faced a storm of criticism from customers. Eventually the company came to its senses, and now with the launch of its new OS Windows 10, Microsoft has brought back the Start menu, albeit with a different look and options.

If you are on Windows 10 and have used Windows for some time, then you might feel that the current Start menu is not for you, and you might prefer the classic Start menu from Windows 7. If this sounds like you, there’s a new app you really should try out.

Classic Shell is a program that lets you replicate the Start menu found in older versions of Windows, from Windows 95 to Windows 7. It features three styles: classic, two columns and the Windows 7 look.

You will be happy to know that the app provides tons of customizable options. You can drag and drop applications to the Start menu or show/hide recently-used documents, and a search box helps you find programs quickly. There’s also jumplist support, support for skins and more. It can show, search and launch Windows Store apps. Also there’s a “All Programs” button, which will open a list of all the programs on your computer. Classic Shell also adds a customizable toolbar and status bar for Windows Explorer.

Of note, Classic Shell is available for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows. The good news is that it is a free program/app, which means you don’t need to shell out a penny for this one. You can download the useful program from here.
