The popular Flappy Bird mobile game recently made an appearance on the Windows Phone website, although the game’s developer claims he has yet to build a version for that platform.

Flappy Bird isn’t coming to Windows Mobile just yet

Nguyen tweeted the following message on Friday: “I would like to [say] sorry WP [Windows Phone] users for the late of WP build. I am trying hard to make it happen.”

The actual version of Flappy Bird was designed for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Android phones. It was created by Vietnamese game designer Dong Nguyen and it’s been downloaded over 50 million times. This game initially launched May of last year and it has increased in popularity.

The secret behind the game’s success

We did a report on Flappy Bird‘s popularity earlier this week and discovered much of the game’s popularity can be attributed to the difficulty of the game. Bloomberg Business Week further explained, “The defining feature of Flappy Bird is that it’s nearly impossible. Being able to steer that bird through those tubes is almost as unlikely as the success that the game’s creator, Dong Nguyen, has enjoyed and, more recently, become exasperated with. But not quite. Many others would love to trade places with him. A wave of rip-offs has hit app stores since Flappy Bird’s emergence from nowhere last month, and some of the newcomers have been pretty successful.”

The reason people enjoy this game still remains a mystery. Many game industry experts see the appeal behind this game as a complete mystery

Last year, $10 billion was spent in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s App Store. Only a handful of big hits are actually receiving that money. SuperData’s chief executive Joost van Dreunen believes Flappy Bird is the exception. His take, “You can still get lucky—that’s the big lesson. The myth of the mobile millionaire still exists.”
