How to Enable Two Factor Authentication in Evernote

Evernote has just rolled out an optional two-factor authentication for all user accounts. This setting can now be enabled from the Security section of Evernote.

Two-factor authentication is also known as two-step authentication

For those who don’t know, two-factor authentication is also known as two-step authentication, where you need to use more than one form of authentication to access your account. For example, apart from the normal username and password, you’ll also need to have your mobile device ready in order to log-in to Evernote.

Evernote has promised in February that the company will roll out two-factor authentication for all registered users “later this year.” The promise has been kept but it enabled two-factor authentication only for paying customers back then. The reason for this, according to Evernote, is that its Premium users are more engaged than its free users. But now, Evernote has enabled two factor authentication to all its users.

Evernote does discriminate slightly between free and paid users

To enable two-step verification, head over to the Security section of Evernote’s website. If you’re a free user, you’ll need to install an authenticator app on your smartphone, such as Google Authenticator. Premium users get an advantage to get the code delivered as a text message. Yes, Evernote does discriminate slightly between free and paid users, but it works.

Note that when you’re setting it up for the first time, you’ll be given a one-time code to use in the event you’re unable to access your phone. Keep this code in a safe place, since you’ll need it when you’re unable to log-in to your Evernote account.

If you’re concerned about the security of your Evernote account, then you should definitely follow the above method to enable two-step authentication.
