BlackBerry made an official announcement of a new Android-powered smartphone dubbed Priv a couple of weeks ago, and now we have a new set of leaked images confirming some key specs of the upcoming device.

BlackBerry Priv to support 4k video

One of the images shows that the handset will be powered by SoC with 64-bit processor, and it is expected to be Snapdragon 808. Another image confirms that the gadgets 18 MP Schneider Kreuznach primary camera will be able to record 4k video. The device will apparently come with support for 4K (2160×4096 pixels) resolution video recording at 30 frames per second. Video recording options in full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution and HD (720×1280 pixels) resolutions with 60fps and 30fps will also be offered.

BlackBerry Priv’s 5.5” dual curve display is in line with the growing demand for big screen devices. There is a sliding and a touch-sensitive QWERTY keyboard as well. The device will most likely run on the 5.1.1 Lollipop version of Android. The device will have a RAM of 3GB. It could come with a woven carbon fiber back cover like the BlackBerry Z30. “PRIV users will enjoy choice, innovation, security, privacy AND productivity. In other words, no compromises,” BlackBerry said when releasing Priv’s first official photos.

Other noticeable changes

With Priv, the Canadian firm will continue with its legacy of providing the most secure smartphones in the market. The BlackBerry Priv will also have an in-built security app dubbed Safeguard, which will show users the security status of the device. Besides that, the app will provide users with some important information such as how other apps are making use of their information, set a pattern-based screen lock, scan device for malicious software and much more.

From the images, it appears that the company has made a few changes to the home button’s swipe gesture. Devices running on Android generally come with a home button that needs to be pressed for a few seconds to get three additional shortcuts, but this is not the case with the Priv. The device could come with a button for quick access to the Hub app and device search.

BlackBerry has not yet announced the launch date for Priv, but it did hint of a launch ‘late in the calendar year.’
