$2,000 Atlanta e-bike Rebate Program: Who Will Get It, How to Apply

Updated on

The City of Atlanta has initiated a new rebate program that could give eligible residents up to $2,000. This new rebate program, called the Atlanta e-bike rebate program, aims to lower the cost of e-bikes for low-income families. The deadline to apply for the program is June 23.

How much rebate could you get?

On Sunday, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and the City of Atlanta launched the e-bike rebate program to provide affordable transportation options to low-income individuals. Residents who meet the requirements need to submit an application by Sunday, June 23.

“Fueled by a $1,000,000 investment from the City of Atlanta, this initiative aims to break down barriers to e-bike ownership, reduce transportation costs, and replace solo car trips to work, the grocery store, and local parks and recreation centers,” the program’s website says.

Since the rebate is limited, recipients will be selected using a lottery. The city has set aside $1 million for the Atlanta e-bike rebate program.

About 75% of the rebates are reserved for individuals earning at or below 80% of the Atlanta region’s median household income, i.e., less than about $54,000 a year. The threshold income varies depending on the household size.

Eligible residents meeting the income threshold will receive a rebate of $1,500 for a standard e-bike and $2,000 for a cargo e-bike. Other qualifying residents will receive $500 for a standard e-bike and $1,000 for a cargo e-bike.

Residents can redeem the rebate at participating retailers operating within the city.

Atlanta e-bike rebate program: who qualifies?

To qualify for the Atlanta e-bike rebate program, you must be a City of Atlanta resident and be at least 18 years old. You can check your residency status by entering your address in the City of Atlanta Property Map Viewer.

You will have to submit an application online. If your application is selected, you must provide documents supporting your eligibility. Applications for the Atlanta e-bike rebate program are available at atlantaregional.org/ebikerebate.

Recipients will get the rebate upfront, meaning the rebate amount will be deducted from the cost of the bike when they buy it at participating retailers. Up to 700 e-bikes are expected to be purchased through the Atlanta e-bike rebate program.

It must be noted that the program is limited to one rebate per resident. Recipients will have 90 days to purchase an e-bike from a participating e-bike retailer. E-bikes purchased with the rebate money are for personal use and must not be resold.

Atlanta’s e-bike rebate program is estimated to result in massive savings for the recipients. On average, a person spends more than $11,000 annually on transportation expenses. The annual electricity cost to power an e-bike is less than $15. Additionally, as more people adopt e-vehicles, it will result in reduced traffic and cleaner air.
