On Wednesday, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sent invitations to media for an Oct. 16 event using the teaser “It’s been way too long.” Media and market watchers are guessing that in the event, the company will launch refreshed versions of its iPads and Macs.

Mac update due for long time

Last year in October, the company came up with a thinner and lighter iPad Air and an overhauled iPad Mini. Also the latest Mac operating system was launched at the same event. Additionally, the company revamped its MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops.

However, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s desktop Macs have not got any update since June 2013. For this reason, analysts are expecting a new Mac series in the event, which will be held at headquarters of the company.

Just a month ago, Apple held a mega event, launching the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and last year the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S were unveiled at the same venue. While Apple’s mega event has always been for iPhones, which constitute more than half of Apple Inc.’s revenue, iPad and Mac launches have always followed the event.

Many speculations surrounding Apple’s iPads

In line with the industry, Apple’s iPad sales have been sluggish in recent months. Apple sold the highest number of iPads in the last quarter of last year, shipping $11.5 billion worth of the tablet. Last quarter, it sold $5.8 billion worth of the iPad, a decline of 8% from the year before.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company is said to be designing a larger tablet, which is not expected to come anytime before 2015. Rumors are running wild over the bigger iPad, especially after the release of a bigger iPhone. There have been reports suggesting that there will be an iPad Pro with a bigger 12.9-inch screen. Some are expecting Macs with a Retina display from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Also it is expected that the iPhone maker will launch OSX Yosemite, the latest update to its desktop operating system.

Some are expecting the company to also launch the Touch ID fingerprint scanner in its new iPad, and according to reports from Bloomberg, the company is preparing to launch a gold color iPad.
