Apple released iOS 9.1 just a few days ago, and it’s just a minor release. But this update fixes many bugs and offers other minor improvements. One notable feature of iOS 9.1 is that it adds support for over 150 new emojis, including the middle finger emoji.
Overall this is a nice update, but if you are a jailbreak user, then here’s bad news for you. This iOS 9.1 update has patched the Pangu jailbreak that came with iOS 9.0. This means that if you want your iPhone or iPad to remain jailbroken, then you should NOT update to iOS 9.1, until and unless a Pangu jailbreak arrives for iOS 9.1.
However, if you are not a jailbreak user or don’t mind losing your jailbreak, and want to enjoy the latest offerings of iOS 9.1, then you should update to iOS 9.1. Plus you will get many bugs fixed and support for those 150 emojis.
Back Up first
Before you update to the latest version of iOS on your iPhone or iPad, you should back it up first. You can do this by using iTunes easily. If you are an iOS user, then you must already know how to do this.
So before updating, launch iTunes on your computer and click on the “Back Up Now” button. This is just a precaution in case anything else goes wrong. If something bad happens, then you can always restore this backup.
Updating to iOS 9.1 From Jailbroken iOS 9
When it comes to updating from a jailbroken iPhone or iPad, you cannot update over the air. You will need to use iTunes to update your iOS device to iOS 9.1. To update, plug your iPhone or iPad to the computer, launch iTunes, and go to the Summary page. From there, click on the “Update” button and then follow the steps on the screen.
Another way to update is to just use the Restore iPhone option, which will factory-wipe your iPhone and also update it to iOS 9.1. Once the update process is complete, you can then restore the backup you just made.
