Google Chrome comes with its own built-in PDF reader. This means that when you click on a downloaded PDF or any PDF link online, then the PDF will open right in the browser without the need for any other application. No doubt this is very useful, especially for those who don’t have any standalone PDF reader installed on their computers.
However, some might want to open the PDF in some other program. The problem is that this is not possible, as when a PDF is clicked, it directly opens in Chrome without asking about which program to use to open the file.
Disable built-in PDF viewer in Google Chrome
If you want to use any external or standalone PDF viewer, then you can disable the built-in PDF viewer. Fortunately, there is a quick solution to this problem.
Step 1: Open Chrome, type “about:plugins” in the address bar and hit enter.
Step 2: This will open Chrome’s plugin configuration page. From the “Chrome PDF viewer,” click on “Disable.”
That’s all you need to do. Now you can open PDFs in the standalone PDF reader that you have installed on your computer. If ever you change your mind, then just go to the same place and click on “Enable” to enable this option and open PDFs in Google Chrome.
