Technology is ever-changing, and there are always new standards ready to replace the old ones. This time we are talking about a new standard for USB that’s coming this year. It’s as USB Type-C or simply, USB-C. So let’s take a deeper dive into this new USB standard and learn what it’s all about.

USB Type-C came into the limelight when Apple announced its all-new MacBook, which will feature this new type of connector. Now Google has also come forward and announced that its Chromebook Pixel will also feature this new USB standard. This new standard is said to replace USB 3.0 but not in the near future as the transition process will take time.

USB Type-C will be reversible

USB Type-C will fix the age old problem and frustration of not properly plugging in a USB device. Sometimes we need to spin the USB device at least two times before it fits in. Thankfully, USB type-C is reversible, which means you can plug it in either way and it will fit in just fine.

Increased data transfer speed

Since we are talking aboutthe new USB standard, then how can we forget to talk about the data transfer speed? USB Type-C offers a transfer rate of 100 Gbps, which is double that of USB 3.0(5.0 Gbps).

Also the cables will offer 20 volts and 5 amps of power, which means that devices will now be able to charge up in less time compared to its predecessor USB 3.0. Faster charging and faster data transfer speeds are really the plus points of this new standard.

Now since the USB Type-C standard is new, its adoption will be slow. So if you need to connect your old USB devices to this new port, then there will be dongles available which will help you do that. For example, if you want to connect your USB 3.0 USB flash drive, then you can with the help of an adapter.
