Galaxy S6 May Arrive Without ‘Edge’ Variant

Over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of rumors that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s Galaxy S6 will also have an ‘Edge’ variant with curved display. The Korean electronics company recently launched Galaxy Note Edge with a curved screen alongside its flagship Galaxy Note 4. Now, the same site that previously claimed that the Galaxy S6 Edge will come next year has learned that the Edge won’t hit the store.

Samsung still testing a new variant of Galaxy S6

Inside sources told SamMobile that there might not be the Edge version of Galaxy S6. But there is still a new variant of its forthcoming device under development. However, sources didn’t reveal what would differentiate it from the standard Galaxy S6. It may have a different design or build than the standard version. The Galaxy S6 has appeared on the AnTuTu benchmark, which revealed its features.

Model number SM-G925F made its debut at the benchmarking platform. A previously leaked list suggests that SM-G925F is the European model of the Galaxy S6. It has a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with 2560 x 1440 resolution. AnTuTu details showed that the Galaxy S6 packs 3GB RAM, a 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor, 32GB internal storage, 20-megapixel main camera, 5MP front camera and ARM Mali-T760 GPU. And yes, the benchmark specifically mentioned Android Lollipop.

Galaxy S6 appears on another benchmark

A few days ago, Dutch website Mobinfo.nl spotted a similar benchmark test for the same model number. According to the benchmark, the smartphone will feature a Quad HD display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, an octa-core processor with ARMv8 instructions set, and a Mali-T768 GPU. There will also be a tri-band LTE cat. 10 modem, a 16-megapixel camera.

Galaxy S6

The major difference in the features reported by two benchmarking platforms is camera. The first one shows the Galaxy S6 with 20MP main camera, while the second one lists the device with 16MP camera. Anyway, these images suggest that Samsung is testing the Galaxy S6. PhoneArena speculates that the Galaxy S6 might ditch the physical home button, integrating a fingerprint scanner underneath the display.
