Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is quiet as usual on the features and the launch of the iPhone 6. All the reports on the iPhone 6 features and specs should be taken with a pinch of salt, as it is possible that there can be some or no truth in the claims made by these reports. And below are some of the latest rumors on the iPhone 6 that appeared this week.
Faster processor for iPhone 6
The latest buzz is that the next-gen iPhone 6 will have a speedier processor, possibly a multi-core A8 processor that’s supposedly clocked at 2.0 GHz. If true, it will be a big leap from the current 1.3GHz dual-core SoC found in the iPhone 5s.
The iPhone 6 will also supposedly come with a communication suite that includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Qualcomm’s latest MDM9x35 modem and an NXP near-field communications chip, according to sources.
Better battery than iPhone 5S
A smaller variant of the iPhone 6 will supposedly be packed with a 2,100mAh-capacity battery, compared to the 1,810mAh battery in its predecessors, according to a posting on Weibo this week by ESM-China Chief Analyst Sung Chang Xu, who cited sources in the supply chain. The iPhone 5S runs on a 1,560mAh battery. Back in April, a report claimed that the new smartphone from Apple will be powered by an 1,810mAh battery.
The news makes sense, as recently the smaller battery size of the iPhone has been scoffed at by Samsung in its latest ads. In one recent ad, iPhone owners are shown as “wall-huggers” at the airport, standing in a queue to get their hands on the power outlet and waiting while their phone is charged. Samsung indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S5 has no such power issues due to its 2,800mAh battery.
Will TSMC manufacture all chips?
Earlier reports suggested that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will receive some orders for manufacturing the iPhone 6 chips while another manufacturer for the chips will be Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Contrary to this, the most recent report suggests that TSMC will be the sole manufacturing partner of Apple for its chips.
The release date of the iPhone 6 is also subject to a number of discussions, with some analysts skeptic over the reported Sept.19 date. These analysts argue that Apple has followed the trend of launching the iPhone on a Tuesday, whereas the highly publicized date falls on a Thursday.
