The war between Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) continues. The Cupertino-based tech giant recently took a dig at its rival with a new advertisement that highlights something Samsung sorely lacks: green energy.

The first dig at Samsung

The first dig was rather simple but powerful with the message, “There are some ideas we want every company to copy.” Samsung has been known to blatantly copy Apple’s products and patents. This dig is clearly aimed directly at Samsung.

As part of Earth Day festivities, Apple kicked off a green-themed marketing campaign. This includes an expanded recycling program that covers all Apple devices. This advert is also used to poke fun at Samsung. The print on the ad reads, “There’s one area where we actually encourage others to imitate us. When everyone makes the environment a priority, we all benefit. We’d be more than happy to see every data centre fuelled by 100 per cent renewable energy sources. And we eagerly await the day when every product is made without the harmful toxins we have removed from ours.”

Apple places new ads in UK publications

These ads were featured on the back of United Kingdom newspapers including Metro and The Guardian. Neither Apple nor Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)
has made an official comment regarding the matter.

Apple’s recent attempt to go green isn’t surprising, especially considering how the tech giant was once under fire from environmental groups. Earlier this month, however, it was named the most improved company by Greenpeace. Every one of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s data centers is powered by renewable energy. Apple’s Maiden Data Center in North Carolina was highlighted in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s advertisements.

This center is powered by sun-trap solar panels that generate 167 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy every 12 months. This is essentially the amount of energy it takes to power 13,837 homes.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also turned the leaf on their company logo green and asked employees to wear green shirts throughout the entire week.
