While this piece could certainly be written in the AP style, I need to applaud this and say finally. You’ve added me to your revenue stream. Sure, I drink coffee but I don’t drink coffee at night. If someone were interested in meeting me for coffee in the late afternoon or evening, I will invariably suggest a bar or fake having plans. Now, I’ll say “Sure I’ll meet you there,” knowing I’ll have a glass of wine as you drink your coffee becomes a possibility.

Wine and beer

What a nice idea that rather than having to decide from the 80,000 possible permutations of coffee drinks at Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX), you can simply choose from 8 or 9 glasses of wine or a few local beers.

It’s not a wholly new idea, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) began selling alcohol at a Seattle location in 2010 and has extended that to additional stores, or cafes as the company would like you to think of them. They have also been testing “Starbucks Evenings” in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Portland. Those cities, however, hardly add up to “thousands” of locations so expect to be able to have a nice Argentine malbec in Wichita, Kansas in coming years.

“The concept is a natural progression for Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) as we seek to create a new occasion for customers to gather, relax and connect with each other in the evenings,” spokeswoman Lisa Passé said.

Still about the coffee

Lest there is any mistake, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) is not turning into a bar at night nor is it unaware that its core business will always be coffee despite sandwiches in the day and drinks at night. “In the true spirit of a traditional coffeehouse, while some stores may serve wine and beer,” Passé says, “coffee will remain the focus of the experience.”

In addition to alcohol sales, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) will also offer food to compliment your drink. Artisan flatbreads, truffle mac n’ cheese, bacon-wrapped dates, salted caramel and cheesecake brownies are just a few of the items that present alcohol-serving Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX)’ cafes are offering.

Don’t worry, all employees will be over 21 after 4PM and won’t misspell your name on your wine glass, but that doesn’t mean you won’t need ID.
