For those who believe that Edward Snowden should be jailed for his treachery the reasons continue to mount. For those that believe in his altruistic nature and that he’s done nothing less than his patriotic duty, that is presumably proving more difficult, as his stream of documents continue. For BlackBerry, the wins continue as its encryption seems above the National Security Agency’s (NSA) decryption teams.
What is DROPOUTJEEP?
Today, following revelations this week that the NSA’s DROPOUTJEEP program allowed full unfettered access to iPhone user data, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released a statement to assure its customers that it was unaware of the program. The company further stated that it has never worked with the NSA in installing “back door” entry into its devices. Since the Snowden story broke in May, numerous companies have moved to show the world that it needn’t worry about their aims. Some of these “apologies”, however, have been refuted.
Apple refutes its participation
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s statement today said the following.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor in any of our products, including iPhone. Additionally, we have been unaware of this alleged NSA program targeting our products. We care deeply about our customers’ privacy and security. Our team is continuously working to make our products even more secure, and we make it easy for customers to keep their software up to date with the latest advancements. Whenever we hear about attempts to undermine Apple’s industry-leading security, we thoroughly investigate and take appropriate steps to protect our customers. We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who’s behind them.
Opinion aside, the Snowden fallout will continue if he’s in possession of the information he claims. Personal thoughts of his whistle-blowing, the man is clearly in possession of information that shapes markets. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), nonetheless, closed the day up $6.50 at $561.02 on moderate training. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) for its part finished up 2.48% at $7.44 following a gain of $0.18.
What comes next is anyone’s guess.
