T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS)’s prepaid phone service GoSmart recently announced plans to offer free access to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to their customers. This includes customers who don’t subscribe to plans with internet service. The company claims this offer will gain them more customers and inspire them to spend more on services.
T-Mobile GoSmart’s critical selling points
GoSmart is one of the many prepaid cell phone services on the market which sell cheaper phones with cheap plans with no contract. Most cell phone carriers like AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ), T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS), and Sprint Corporation (NYSE:S) sell smartphones at a subsidized rate. In order to get the phones at a subsidized rate, customers must go through a credit check and meet the credit standards. Customers who don’t meet the credit often have to pay more upfront for the phone. GoSmart has plenty of competition on the market including Cricket Communications, Virgin Mobile, and Boost Mobile.
Free Facebook for all GoSmart users
The free service will start early next year and will include anything that’s hosted on Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) such as content, images, or videos. If the video or content is hosted outside of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), the users will need a data plan. T-Mobile’s vice president of partner brands Gavin Dillon explained, “Facebook is the most important online communication tool we’ve seen come around.”
GoSmart initially launched early in 2013. This new service will offer a unique selling point that should drive more tech consumers to their service. The plans start at $25 for unlimited talk; $30 for unlimited talk and text; $35 for unlimited talk, text, and web; and $40 for unlimited talk, text, and high-speed web. Dillon reported that the company already has hundreds of thousands of customers. T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) also offers a prepaid service under their own name as well as MetroPCS, a prepaid phone service that the company acquired.
Another big selling point for GoSmart is the fact they encourage customers to bring their own smartphones with SIM kits.
