Nokia Lumia 1520 No Longer Available For Preorder [UPDATE]

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) fans can now preorder the Nokia Lumia 1520 smartphone through the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) online store.

Nokia Lumia 1520 retail price and specs

The new phone retails for $199 with a two-year contract. It’s also available for $549 without the contract. The 1520 is available in four color choices including black, white, red, or yellow. These phones will be available on November 15th.

Unlike previous Lumia models, this phone will be exclusive to AT&T in the United States. Highlights for the Lumia 1520 include a 6-inch high-definition 1080p display, 2GB of memory, 16GB of storage, a 20-megapixel Pureview camera, and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It will also feature a microSD slot to expand storage.

What sets this phone apart from similar models is its size and the Qualcom Snapdragon 800 processor, the latter of which is also used in the Windows RT tablet.

Built-in wireless charging

Right now, there is no word on international availability. The AT&T version doesn’t have built-in wireless charging to favor optional shell accessories to make use of the PMA standard. The international versions are reported to feature built-in wireless charging.

One of the major downsides to this new phone is that there’s no stylus support. Part of the appeal of a phablet-like phone is the stylus that comes with it. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s Note enhanced the whole phablet experience with a pen-like feature that allows you to “write” on your phone’s display.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) have yet to garner the same level of financial success in the mobile market. Unlike their rivals Samsung and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), these tech companies have yet to create the kind of smartphones the general public wants. That said, the Nokia Lumia isn’t fairing that badly as new Lumia models launch throughout the year. Now that Microsoft has officially acquired Nokia technologies for themselves, only time will tell if the acquisition plays in their favor in the long run.
