How To Receive DMs From Your Twitter Followers

Last week Twitter has slowly started to roll out a new feature which allows users to receive DMs (direct messages) from any of your followers, without you following them back. As there are two sides of the same coin, some people like this change while some think that it will increase spamming on Twitter.

Twitter now allows you to receive direct messages from any of your followers, even if you’re not following them, provided you’ve enabled this setting.

Visit the account settings page by clicking on the gear icon and then click on Settings. Here’s a direct link to this page for your convenience. On this page, you’ll find an option to “Receive direct messages from any follower.” Check mark this option— however if you don’t find this option, then check back after a day or two. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Changes button.

By doing this, you’re giving the permission to Twitter to send you direct messages from any of your followers, without you having to follow them back. Brands, companies and other users will find this option very useful to send some sensitive data via personal messages, without revealing the details to the public.

However, this also means that there could be an increase in spam messages by people promoting their service or product. That’s why, if you’ve enabled this option and end up getting lots of promotional DMs, then you can head over to the same place and disable this option.
