How would you feel if your fourteen-year-old daughter had been coerced into having sex with a very rich older man? Jeffrey Epstein is such a man, and he very likely will be spending the rest of his life in prison. Donald Trump has also left a trail of alleged sexual assaults. But back in 2002, he differentiated his sexual preferences from those of Epstein.

“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Both men have allegedly sexually assaulted women, but Trump did not go for legally underage girls. And as he has said in countering claims of his victims, “She’s not my type.”

Trump now claims that he has had little to do with Jeffrey Epstein for many years. But during their long association, Trump was possibly aware of his friend’s sexual predilections.

Obviously, the Trump administration – as has been its custom -- did not do due diligence in vetting Labor Secretary candidate, Alex Acosta. As the US. District Attorney who helped Epstein work out a secret plea agreement to dodge a very long prison term in 2008, Acosta has become politically toxic. Even Senate Republicans, who unanimously supported his appointment, have now turned against him.

But Trump is still not quite ready to ask for his resignation. Indeed, he may still believe that Acosta hadn’t done anything wrong.

How much will this latest scandal affect the president’s reelection chances? Have we become so inured to having a morally bankrupt leader that we’ll just shrug off the latest revelation?

I don’t think so! Although Trump himself has not only been accused of the heinous crimes that Jeffrey Epstein has committed, he has been too closely associated with Epstein, and now with Acosta.

We’ll soon see how much of a hit he will take when the new polling numbers come out next week. Perhaps even the most deplorable of his supporters will agree with Senator Bernie Sanders that “Enough is enough!”
