The second expansion of Destiny 2 is named Warmind, and it will be available for download in just a few hours. It will have the guardians heading back to Mars to explore the thawing ice caps and take on the Hive army. The main plot of Destiny 2 Warmind revolves around Warmind Rasputin, who has just woken up on the Red Planet with an entire army of Hive at disposal. Your job as a guardian will be to put Rasputin back in the ground.

Destiny 2 Warmind release time

The Destiny 2 Warmind will become available on Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 today (May 8). Let’s talk about when you can get your hands on the latest expansion. Right now, the Destiny 2 backend servers are down for maintenance, according to developer Bungie. The maintenance is scheduled to end at 11 AM Pacific Time ( 2 PM ET) on Tuesday. The developer has taken the servers down to add the Warmind expansion and the update 1.2.0.

Pre-loading began at 7 AM Pacific Time on Tuesday. If you haven’t pre-loaded the Destiny 2 Warmind expansion, you’ll be prompted to download as soon as you log back in. Even if you have downloaded the expansion and the v1.2.0 update, you won’t be able to start playing Warmind until after 11 AM Pacific Time, when Destiny 2 will come back online. The reason why you won’t be able to play earlier is that a hotfix to bring the game to v1.2.0.1 will not be available until 11 AM PT.

Bungie has told fans that it would post the full patch notes for Destiny 2 Warmind and v1.2.0 on its website at around 10 AM Pacific Time on May 8. Right now, you can only check out an overview of changes coming out here.

Destiny 2 Warmind price

A large chunk of the Warmind’s new content will be accessible only to players who already have the game’s expansion pass or those who buy it. You can either buy the Warmind expansion on its own or purchase the Destiny 2 expansion pass. In both cases, you’ll have to own the base version of Destiny 2. If you want to buy only the Warmind expansion pass, you’ll have to shell out $19.99.

If you want to own both the Warmind and the previous Curse of Osiris expansion, you can pick them up for $35. The Curse of Osiris costs $16.99 if bought separately. Also, Destiny 2’s expansion pass is included with it in the $89.99 bundle, and in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game that costs $99.99.

How much storage does it need?

On the PlayStation 4, it would update the Destiny 2’s file size to nearly 53GB. However, you’ll need to have at least 71GB of free storage on your console for the download. The PlayStation requires additional space to download before installing an update. If you want to install it on PC, the Destiny 2 would take up 48GB of space, but it would require 68GB of free storage to install the Warmind expansion. For Xbox One users, the download and installation sizes will be the same 50GB.

What the update brings

The Destiny 2 Warmind packs tons of new content, weapons, locations, armor, the Spire of Stars Raid Lair, and an Escalation Protocol mode. It will also have three new strikes on the PS4 and two new strikes on the Xbox One and Windows PC. It will officially kick off Season 3 of Destiny 2. There will be private matches in Crucible, two new Crucible maps, a new Ranked Crucible Setup, improved exotic weapons, and the expansion to Vault space.

The Destiny 2 developer has done away with the DLC ownership requirement for maps. It means you’ll be able to play all the Warmind and Curse of Osiris Crucible maps in public games. But you’ll still have to purchase the DLC if you want to use the maps in private matches.

For the uninitiated, the Escalation Protocol is a new horde mode-style activity, where you can take part during the endgame stages of Warmind. You can manually start the Escalation Protocol, but you’ll first have to finish the campaign. It will also give you the opportunity to try your hands on some new weapon type.

The Spire of Stars is a new Raid Lair that takes you back to the Leviathan. It brings new gear, scenarios, and bosses. The update brings Will of the Thousands and Strange Terrain strikes to the PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. A third strike called The Insight Terminus will be exclusive to the PS4.
