A white van has hit into a number of pedestrians in Toronto, according to initial reports police says eight to ten people have been injured. The accident on Yonge Street and Finch Avenue East occurred just after 1 pm local time, according to the Toronto Police Department.

The incident occurred some 30 kilometres from city center, where the G7 foreign ministers had a meeting on Monday.

Toronto paramedics are treating multiple patients, according to Kim McKinnon, superintendent for the Toronto paramedics.

AP on Twitter reports, the driver has been arrested. The driver is believed to have initially fled the scene, local media has reported.

“Our hearts go out to anyone affected,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa. “Obviously we’ll have more to say in the coming hours.”

Police are advising the public to stay away from the area.

Accoring to local news, TTC has shut down subway service on Line 1, between Sheppard and Finch Stations, due to the police investigation. There will not be any shuttle bus service.

The internet users on Twitter are sharing the alleged photo of the truck that hit people.
