We’re hearing form police in Evanston that the report of a shooting at Northwestern University appears unfounded. Officers responded to Engelhart Hall after placing the school on lockdown due to a report of a shooting in a residential building. However, after checking the area, they found “no evidence of a victim, scene, or gunman.” Evanston police spent about 30 minutes before updating local media to say that no scene had been found, although they also said that they’re still on scene at the university.
The call went out around 2:30 p.m. Central Time, when school administrators say they received a call that shots had been fired inside Engelhart Hall, which houses some graduate students and their families. Evanston police told the Daily Northwestern that someone called and reported that he had shot his girlfriend near the intersection where the dorm is located. However, they haven’t found any sign that anything has happened there.
Police advise students and staff members to remain sheltered in place until the all-clear is given. The Northwestern campus remains on lockdown.
