When buying a new smartphone, apart from its technical specs, what matters the most is the operating system it comes with, and whether it will receive new updates or not. When it comes to Android operating systems, Google’s own Nexus device lineup is the first to receive updates, but recently other manufacturers have also started automatically sending  updates to their devices. These OS updates may not be quite as soon as with Nexus devices, but getting an update in 1-2 months makes sense, and today sometimes it can take more than a quarter.

When are Samsung’s devices getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow?

There’s a new leak that outlines Samsung’s plan to start pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its Galaxy devices. As per this roadmap, Samsung will start pushing updates as early as next month, starting with the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphones.

Next comes in line to get Marshmallow update is the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in January 2016, and then Note 4 and Note Edge in February. Unfortunately, there’s no time frame posted for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha.

The future for the Android 6.0 update on Samsung’s A and E series is not clear, as there’s no ETA available, nor is it known whether they will receive the update later or not at all.

Some exciting new features that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will bring are revamped app permissions, Google Now on tap feature, Android Pay mobile system, new fingerprint reader APIs for developer, new Do Not Disturb feature and a Doze feature that is aimed to save battery power.

Only time will tell whether this new Samsung roadmap plan leak is legit or not. Let’s hope that at least the latest devices receive the update soon.
