If you’ve ever wanted to participate in a singing competition, now is your chance with the Facebook Talent Show feature. If the feature is for real, users will be able to compete in singing, by singing popular songs on the app and then sending it to an audition for a review. The feature hasn’t yet rolled out but has been spotted by a code researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

Wong is already known to thoroughly go through code and explore yet-to-come features on Facebook and Instagram by using reverse engineering tactics. About the Facebook Talent Show feature, Wong was looking at an interface that reveals that users pick up a song from a list of popularly sung tunes. The app should then record the singer’s voice while he or she is singing one of the selected tunes.

The code Wong discovered in an interface hints at references to a feature like “Talent Show” while also including elements that are closely related to what we find on live shows of that kind such as “audition” and “stage.” As Wong noted in her Twitter account, the auditions get loaded as videos.

Two months ago, Facebook announced “lip sync” and in that way avoided copyright issues with users uploading videos with copyrighted songs. The company started last year and made deals with the popular record labels including Universal, Sony and Warner, as well as indie artists.

“We’ve been partnering with music companies around the world to bring music to more experiences on Facebook. Today we’re announcing new ways for people to express themselves with music in their posts, including a new feature, Lip Sync Live,” reads Facebook’s blog post.

However, using Facebook Talent Show, users will be able to actually sing, instead of lip syncing, for fun. A newly launched app, FameGame already implements this feature. Still, Wong said that the upcoming feature will be only restricted to Facebook Pages. Moreover, Wong added that Talent Show finds the source of the music using the new Rights Manager.

It is not surprising that Facebook is adding the features of another app, as the company has a history of implementing any other social app’s trademark feature as soon as it comes out, similarly to Stories of Snapchat.

Hopefully, Facebook doesn’t restrict its Talent Show feature only to pages and we all get to compete in this amusing feature. What do you think about it? Please leave a comment!
