In the summer, Pokemon Go was the phenomenon which was sweeping the globe, a game which had caught the imagination of millions and had coaxed them away from TV sets and gaming machines. Now a few months later, the craze has lost its way. No longer do you see as many people walking the streets at night catching Pokemon. Instead, they’re watching The Walking Dead or the more recent West World. However, Niantic has struck back with the Pokemon Go Gen 2 update; it’s bid to reclaim those lost to TV.

Pokemon Go Gen 2 update

Niantic regularly updates the Pokemon Go game for both Android and iOS. So far these updates have seen many new features aimed at capturing a user’s attention. However, for some users, these updates just weren’t enough, and Niantic has seen its numbers tumble in recent months.

To try to bring those previous users back to the game, the developer has released another update. This latest update focuses on enabling users to capture Pokemon more easily and improving catch bonuses; it also offers Gym improvements. But within the code of the game, some tech-savvy individual has been able to spot something interesting.

Pokemon Go Gen 2 will introduce 100 new Pokemon

Spotted by someone at Silph Road in the Pokemon Go v0.45.0 APK, this code references 100 new Pokemon, which will take the number in the game from 151 to 251.

According to those who discovered the code, their reason for digging around was to find some new feature or change. What they found instead will, if and when added to the game, change it fundamentally.

New Transform move code spotted

While there is already more than a hundred Pokemon to choose from, the Pokemon Go Gen 2 update has caused a stir. It’s because not only have the 100 new critters been found but something else too. It may relate to the Pokemon called Ditto, the creature which is known to have the ability to transform.

The code discovered in the update refers to a new Transform move and animation sequence, which, according to those who know and understand Pokemon better than us, means Ditto is probably included in the 100.

When will users see the 100 new Pokemon?

With this latest update, Niantic has quickly implemented the other changes that came with it, such as Buddy Pokemon. However, it may take some time for the developer to work 100 new creatures into the game.

It’s thought that to fully implement Pokemon Go Gen 2, it will have to introduce server-side changes. Additionally, it could mean that new patches will come because client-side changes would be required too. So just don’t hold your breath. It’s not known if the addition of the new Pokemon is scheduled for early 2017 or if it’s a work in progress, but we do know it will take time.
