The highly anticipated Apple Watch was officially unveiled yesterday. This prompts many tech companies to make new products and programs specifically designed for the wearable. One of those companies is Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA), which is currently prototyping games for the must-have accessory.

EA’s foray into the smartwatch market

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA)’s mobile content executive Frank Gibeau offered a suggestion certain Apple Watch applications could accompany iPhone games. This may or may not mean the iWatch will function as a separate platform for games. There is one app developer who is already working on a virtual arm-wresting game for the device, however it isn’t certain whether the smartwatch has gaming capabilities.

Gibeau explained to CNET that his company has two teams who are prototyping standalone wearable experiences. Some of these ideas also include the possibility of using fitness components in the watch to unlock capabilities in a game that is on the iPhone. Users could also participate in online auctions or do crafting on the watch that goes back to the tablet game which can be viewed later when the user gets home. Gibeau added that he is excited even though it is very early. The idea of another possible gaming platform compels the EA.

Apple Watch hits stores next year

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release the new watch early next year but the device will require an iPhone to work. The Apple Watch will start at $349 in North America. This new device is billed as the company’s most personal product to date as it is the first wearable. There are three designs to choose from including Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. The first is made from stainless steel or black stainless steel cases with sapphire crystal. Watch Sport is made from Anodized aluminum cases in either silver or space gray. The upscale Watch edition features 18-karat gold cases in yellow or rose with sapphire crystal.
