Groupon Inc (GRPN) Unveils Freebies For iOS

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) has been making progress in mobile, and it’s taking another step in the shift to its new business model today with the launch of Freebies. In a press release, the daily deals giant said with the launch of Freebies on iOS, they now have “the most widely distributed mobile coupon destination” in the U.S.

Groupon brings more savings to iOS users

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) launched Freebies late last year. The feature now has over 30,000 digital coupons, sales, samples, promotion codes and giveaways which are all accessible online or in stores using mobile devices. The digital coupon company said over 6,000 top brands are represented with over 245,000 physical locations. Freebies is designed to offer coupons to customers on the go, especially as they shop in physical locations of their favorite stores.

As part of the launch on iOS, Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) is offering digital coupons for a number of the top brands, including Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY), Aeropostale Inc (NYSE:ARO), Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) and others.

“By adding Freebies to our popular mobile app, we’re giving shoppers more ways to save money on the go without having to clip any coupons,” said Sean Smyth, vice president and general manager of, Freebies, in a statement. “And, with more than 80 million downloads globally, we’re giving brands an enormous platform to drive customers to their mobile app, online store or physical location.”

Groupon Freebies lets users share

Currently Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) has made Freebies available only in the U.S., although the company intends to expand the service to some international markets by the end of this year. The company will also expand Freebies to Android devices and add location-based alerts this summer.

The company has included iMessage and text messaging built right into the Freebies app, as well as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) to make it easy for users to share deals with others.
