Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook will sit with First Lady Michelle Obama today to watch President Obama deliver the State of the Union address.
A White House official told Contra Costa Times that they will sit with military families, those seeking reform in immigration laws and families which have been affected by gun violence.
The official said Cook will be sitting with the group because he represents the nation’s economy and its innovative abilities. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has also recently said that it will manufacture some of its Mac computers in the U.S., adding manufacturing jobs to the economy, which had been a topic of debate during the presidential elections last fall.
This year’s State of the Union address is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern tonight. President Obama is expected to focus on the economy in his speech, particularly calling for businesses to grow the economy and create jobs.
He is also expected to address the massive spending cuts due to begin in March which Congress still must deal with. President Obama will likely urge Congress to prevent the massive cuts and call for a balanced plan which includes extra tax money from the top earners in America.
Mars Curiosity rover team member Bobak Ferdowski will also be joining the group in the First Lady’s box. President Obama noticed Ferdowski when he called the Mars rover team to offer congratulations for the success of the Curiosity landing. Ferdowski is now referred to as NASA’s “Mohawk Guy.”
Last year Mrs. Obama’s guests were Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) co-founder Steve Jobs, and Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger.
