Hedge Fund Analyst Headcount [Charts]

Barclays put out some really interesting figures on Hedge Fund headcount at various fund sizes by surveying over 100 clients.

The average headcount for a hedge fund under $1 billion in assets was 12, for funds between $1-5 billion the average headcount was 32 and for funds over $5 billion the average headcount was 127.  At the higher end large hedge funds have a much larger investments into human capital-intensive skills.

Referring to the chart below smaller hedge fund are made up of 53% investment analysts while larger funds of over $5 billion have 41% of total headcount for analysts: i.e. much more back-office for Operations, Accounting, Admin, etc.
